Quick Pick – Sky Kingdoms

Sky KingdomsI have no qualms in admitting that I have a serious love, hate relationship with ball poppers. Why? Well, back in the early days of casual download I played Zuma till my eyes watered and wrist ached. Fighting and swearing my way through many lost lives, I experienced a crisis of sorts over the fine line between fun and addiction (is there a line?). How is it that such a simple concept can be so phenomenally addictive? And why did watching my partner play bring out such a nasty competitive streak even before I’d tried my hand at the game? Why on earth do I care if I can match coloured balls quicker than he does? But I digress….

In case you’re unfamiliar with ball poppers here’s the premise; a line of coloured balls roll around the screen following a pre-determined path. The player controls a shooter that fires coloured balls at the queue, the goal being to match three or more balls of the same colour which destroys/explodes them. Clear the screen of all balls before they reach the end of the path to complete a level.

Sky Kingdoms developer, Alawar Entertainment, hasn’t strayed too far from this classic formula. The game features 90, well-balanced, ball popping levels so plenty of content and challenge for a seasoned player. Specific level objectives and the ability to buy and sell upgrades provides opportunity for some fresh variations in the gameplay. The game also features some unique powerups that are particularly tactile with clever audio and visual effects.

All in all I am glad I invested the time in Sky Kingdoms. It’s well worth checking out!
